Muhammara

This spicy dip, which originated from Syria and became a favorite all over the Middle East and the Mediterranean gets its name from the Arabic word ahmar, meaning red. In some parts of Turkey it is called acuka or acika and the consistency is more of a spread rather than of a dip. Either way, it is a great recipe to enjoy on roasted pita bread points as an appetizer or a breakfast spread.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup tomato paste
  • ½ cup spicy pepper paste
  • ½ cup roasted red peppers
  • 1 cup olive oil
  • 2 cups bread crumbs
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 2 tbsp pomegranate sours
  • Combine every single ingredient in a food processor, on low bring to the desired consistency.

This is also a make ahead recipe, and will keep in the refrigerator up to a week.

It is most delicious when consumed at room temperature.

Enjoy!
