Haydari

Haydari is another beloved dish on our meze trays that we proudly share the origins with another people. Lebanese cuisine has a similar yogurt dish that is called labneh , the base is the same but the flavors might slightly differ.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup strained yogurt
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried mint
  • salt to taste
  • olive oil to drizzle on top
  • If you cannot find strained yogurt you can do it yourself as follows.

To strain the yogurt – for 1 cup strained you will probably need 1 ½ cups of plain yogurt- you can use a cheese cloth, if you don't have it a paper coffee filter will do the trick. Put the yogurt in cheese cloth or coffee filter, place it in a colander, cover with plastic wrap and put some weight on it, leave for a couple of hours. Ideally overnight straining would be great, just don't forget to put it in the fridge.

When ready to use mix the garlic, mint and salt into the yogurt, place in a plate, drizzle with olive oil.

Enjoy!
